First on the list for any trip to Cornwall is to hunt out a fresh crab sandwich and The Secret Garden Cafe in Bideford is probably the best I’ve had.
From the street, the cafe looks just like any other quaint little cornish cafe, but step through the back door and discover a real hidden gem.
As we entered the garden we passed a retired couple reading the mornings paper with a well fed sausage dog slumped at their feet, we then stepped through an arch of sweet peas and nestled down into a quiet corner.
When the food arrived it was well presented and the staff were happy to be there. The crab sandwich was exactly what I was after, nothing too fancy just lovely fresh crab in a creamy mayo sauce between fresh wholemeal bread.
In my opinion The Secret Garden is undeniably one of North Cornwall’s best hidden gems.
